Research Introduction

A person can find religion everywhere, and since the 20th century religion within the virtual world has become very popular. Religion is well defined in Secondlife and many avatars across the world teleport into churches, synagogues, or morgues on a regular basis to practice what is being taught. With so many religions surfacing in SecondLife it is hard to keep track of everyone of them. Religion in Secondlife is convenient, amd avatars can log on at any time of the day and practice their beliefs. Some may think or believe that just because religion is practiced in a virtual world with animated characters, that it is not real or does not exist. Although there are some selfish people in Secondlife who take advantage of religious rituals, in Secondlife they are highly out numberedby the ones who take religion seriously. There are real pastors who offer praise, support, and counseling to members of their groups.The best thing about attending a religious service in Secondlife is that avatars have the ability to kneel in a prayer position to pray. Now how real is that? Although there are different types of religions in Secondlife, What are they? and What are some examples of religion in Secondlife? and How are they practiced?

Introduction.

My art class makes me fall asleep because all I hear is, "Art is not just production, quality, and expression"; but that is all I know it to be. It seemed that art could be in any form and since the new generation, 3D or virtual worlds/games ranked number one. I began to think about second life and I realized that second life is the most amazing form of art ever created. Second life is a 3D form of art and it contains many different Sims involving theaters and museums. The arts of second life can be expressed in many different forms and expressions. According to Susan Steinbeck, creator of the Art Gallery Owners Group, there are over 900 different art galleries in second life. An avatar can play, interact, touch, and watch the art in second life. Museums in second life play a major role; the quality is what makes museums the main attraction in second life. Some museums are historical and educational, while others are fun and hands-on. However, theaters are the most exciting and there are many different productions taken place in various locations. Theaters in second life produce great plays, such as Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and Macbeth.

Interacting with people in Second Life is easier than interacting with people in the real world because you wouldn’t be as nervous and you could express yourself freely.

When a person thinks of entertainment, they think about having fun by any means necessary. Entertainment is something diverting and engaging, and second life offers just that. In the morning, during the afternoon, and at night, the entertainment in second life is non-stop. It all is too much to grasp. If you do not feel like getting out of bed or putting on some clothes to hang out with friends just open up second life. So many different people come to enjoy themselves and most are not disappointed by what they can do in second life. Second life helps avatars relax and have fun. Second life gives you the best of both worlds, without leaving the house. You can go so many places and meet various people; such as going to the movies, the spa, shopping, going to dance clubs, and also participating in sporting events.

Entertainment in Second Life

In the morning, during the afternoon, and at midnight the entertainment in second life is non-stop. It all is too much to grasp. There are so many activities in second life a person cannot even imagine. Second life helps avatars relax and have fun. You can go so many places and meet various people; such as going to the movies, the spa, shopping, going to clubs, and also participating in sporting events.

Exploration Assignment

As I entered second life I was thinking about the assignment the whole time, but I did not realize that I would have so much fun and come in contact with so many new people. As I teleported back and forth to different locations I noticed some of the same avatars. I did not realize that there would be that many different places to explore; about many different topics. Most of the places I teleported to were weird in so many different ways and some were educational. A lot of the Sims that I visited seemed very interesting.

When I first arrived at Info Island I was greeted by a librarian named Ms. Paris. She was real nice. She asked if I was finding everything okay there at Info Island and she also told me and my classmate Victor about an LIS education training going on later tonight. We told her that we were doing a class project and asked her if we could take a picture with her and she said, "sure why not." Info Island was my favorite place we had to visit because there was many different places to go. I really like the fact that SL is up to date because Victor and I got to take a picture in front of President Obama as he gave his Oath.

As we kept exploring Info Island I seen a poster of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I fell in love with the poster and decided we should take a picture in front of it because it read one of my favorite quotes, "Hatred Paralyzes life; love releases it. Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it; Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it." As I was growing up my grandmother use to say this to my siblings and I every time something bad happened in our neighborhood. We also visited the research center. In the research center there were so many different ways to do research. We decided to explore the Genealogy research center as well. We walked around the research center exploring things for like ten minutes. They had a placement office right next door, which offered higher education programs and employment programs. It showed people how to do mock interviews, job search sites, recruiters in the area, and how to create a resume.

After we stopped exploring the placement center we then came across a Sim called Peace Park Religious Resources. We got to sit down and and relax. We received different options to do things. One thing that I thought was very interesting was when they asked us how we wanted to pray. I choose to pray on my knees because that is what I practice in church.

This was the last location we visited in Info Island and I decided to go ahead and save it as a landmark because I enjoyed it so much and the other avatars I meet there were so helpful.

After I left Info Island I decided to teleport to Midian City, Apocalypse. As I read the description of the place I noticed that it said I would encounter many different gangs and psychos. I also said they I could visit different clubs. It said there were a lot of sex, drugs, and violence going on in Midian City, Apocalypse. There were many different avatars inside this Sim and they were acting all weird. It was real dark so I kept running into people. As I explored this Sim I noticed that people had on customs and that they were role playing. I heard people talking about all kinds of disgusting things; I did not know that this Sim would be like this. There was graffiti everywhere. The only thing I liked about this Sim was that they had an arcade room; which featured my favorite game Dance Dance Revolution. Since I did not like not like this Sim, I decided to leave and teleport to my next location. Which was Beckenbach. I really did not like being here. It was super dark. On the description of Beckenbach it said that there was cloths and accessories and stuff, but I did not see any of them. There was no other avatars here except Victor and myself and I could understand why. We must have went into the wrong part of Beckenbach because we were walking inside a grave yard. I became very scared because there was a sign that said there were zombies everywhere. As soon as I turned around I was getting ate up by one. My life just totally went down; I was only at a 16%, it was my time to die. I did get to ride a pony though inside the grave yard.

It was finally time for me to teleport again and I was extremely happy. I then teleported to my last and final location which was Themiskyra. Themiskyra was a nice place and I really liked it here. I visited a Sim called Salmacis Zephaniah's SexGen Pool. The only thing about this place was that they were asking me all kind of sex questions. I did not find that very appropriate. I found this a very relaxing place and there was not that many people here.

Over all, I had a great time in second life. This was a really great project to do and I learned a lot of new things about SL.

"LET ME IMTRODUCE MY SECOND LIFE"

MY AVATAR NAME IS AZALEEAMYAH MNEMONIC AND MY FAVORITE COLORS ARE ORANGE AND BLACK. I decided to make my avatar look a lot like myself; simply because I love the way I look. I am light skin with long black and brown hair. I am very short around 5'1. I have a medium size head and it is very round. I like to where my hair in a pony tail so that influenced how I wanted my avatar hair to look. I made her have long black hair and I gave her all my facial features. The body type I gave her was the body type I had in high school because I really want to try and become that size again. When I log into second life I normally keep my same appearance, but I do change my clothes very often. I did not spend any money on my avatar because in real life I like to where simple clothing; none to extreme. I am very happy with the way my avatar looks and most times I compare my real life look to my second life look. For example if I get my hair colored in real life I tend to color my hair in second life; same as when I buy new clothing in real life, I create or buy a new outfit in second life. I did not try and to achieve a particular look, I just wanted my avatar to be just like me. I asked one of my friends if I should make my avatar the total opposite of me, but they suggested that I did not, so I took their advice and ran with it. This is why my avatar looks the way it does.

SECOND LIFE

I think second life is a great website. I love all the 3D animation. I also believe that it is a good way to meet new people; before this class I had an avatar and people are very friendly. People from different countries are very eager to meet new people and to learn about the states. I think everybody in the class will learn, but at the same time have fun.

My name is Whitney Brown and I am currently a sophomore here at UCM. I was born in Sherveport, LA but I was raised in Kansas City, Missouri. My major is Social Work. I choose to become a Social Worker because I love helping people. My favorite colors are orange and blue and I love to listen to music. I have a boyfriend and he is the love of my life and has been for two years now. I have heard of second life. I watch alot of TV and many shows have a second life website. Yes, I do consider myself a good writer; but I do not like to write.
